A new road block

As going through presentations another road block not mentioned yet is how training is provided

we need more "time" and training... however we need focused.

need to sort out ability of teachers to match what they need not cookie cutter them all into one thing

I agree that training needs to be based on ability! It also needs to be based on teacher needs and desires. What an early elementary teacher needs may vary from a sixth grade or high school teacher. Not to mention that what one teacher feels is valuable is not necessarily what another teacher wants to use. The problem is that many teachers do not know what is available. How do we most efficiently communicate what is available when time is so limited?

Great point Keith. I just had an interesting conversation with one of the teachers from the Isle of Man, and his question about how teachers learn the new stuff caught me a little off guard. I know we do training during staff time once a month, sometimes twice, plus the state trainings in things like Noteshare or podcasting, but where do people "get" it? We here are maybe the exceptions, those who go and find out how because we want to know, rather than those who sit and wait for someone to tell them they must use this tool, so learn how to use it and to do so attend this class/workshop/session. When did we learn to have kids use powerpoints for presentations? Was it really so long ago? I dont have a clear picture of when we started doing them, or what the curve was. I do remember not having to hand out even one of my "howto" sheets for powerpoint sometime a year or so ago, since all the kids were 100% good to go without it. I put up tech tips and a wiki with loads of links to tools and PD howtos, but who really uses them? I'm not sure. I'll be paying more attention to this component from now on.
